松平健の『Ghost of Yōtei』お手並み拝見

Oh… so this is Mount Yotei. You can use all these weapons?
I’d love to try that in a fight scene myself. This guy really makes my blood boil! Her way of combat is so cool! Hello, everyone. I’m Ken Matsudaira. Today I’m checking out a “period drama” action game Ghost of Yotei on PS5. As someone who’s been doing samurai dramas for decades, I’m so curious about this one. So let’s dive in! Ken Matsudaira’s “Show your mettle, Ghost of Yotei!” Oh… so this is Mount Yotei. It’s so vibrant. The colors are brilliant. Freely roaming across such a land would be pure joy in itself. Shooting a period drama in this setting would be amazing. Building a set like this in real life… that’s a tall order. Its authenticity doesn’t pale in comparison to Uzumasa (*A famous period drama shooting studio in Japan). I’m surprised that this is developed by creators in the U.S. Haha, in real filming, galloping with this many unmanned horses is difficult, though. The crunching sound of the snow is good. In the actual filming, riding a horse on the snow is tough. This horse is a good boy, following directions so well. Riding a white horse… it reminds me of an old, unfettered role of mine. “Show your mettle!” So the main character, Atsu, comes back to Ezo to get revenge for her family. The story begins as a good old revenge plot. It is a classic theme in period dramas, and also one that resonates universally around the world. This guy really makes my blood boil. “Show your mettle!” You can use all these weapons? Nice. Oh, that spear kick-up move is slick! I’d love to try that in a fight scene myself. The kusarigama, dual swords…deftly handled. Enemies’ reactions feel spot on. As someone who’s cut down more bad guys than I can count, I’m impressed. Atsu isn’t a ninja, but sometimes she moves like a ninja, right? Our standard “Samurai” style is like that, but her style is different. This is all about speed and flow. She is very cool! Bravo! “Show your mettle!” Then there’s “Kurosawa Mode.” Just switching to black-and-white completely changes the mood. The charm of monochrome lies in the contrast of light and shadow. Moving freely inside a Kurosawa-esque world…that’s wonderful. And then there’s “Miike Mode”. Director Takashi Miike is famous for his intense action, and the game recreates that vibe perfectly. The blood… wow! That’s Miike for you. “Show your mettle!” Beautiful scenery, weighty story, thrilling action… It feels like stepping into a real-deal period drama. It surely exceeded my expectations. Amazing that it was made by creators in the U.S. yet captures Japan so well. I saw your mettle, and… Ghost of Yotei… Well done!
