It’s interesting to hear that she has developed a very clay court game playing for college a lot of years probably on hard courts and being you know American so they do grow up on hard courts mainly if it’s clay it’s green clay which is very different so do you think it’s her game that just suits the surface I think it’s the game which suits yeah the heavy spin I mean fighting as well. I mean in clay court a lot of longer points you can play. So if you know how to fight and move well and again these days I feel clay courts are much faster than they used to be most of the tournaments and you don’t have to slide that much anymore you know and be deep down in the clay. grind. So I feel it’s slightly different. Oh, I get that. It’s from Payton Sterns. Sterns started really well here. Three games to one. That’s an impressive hold. Wind zero. 15. [Applause] 31 also you feel with Osaka it’s, you know, it’s a lack of Yeah, her level will just go down fly up. Yeah, there’s no doubt the game’s there, isn’t it? It’s just it just needs time. Her return has been kind of interrupted. We see these flashes, don’t we? We see we know what she can do. And it is just a case of fitness, I think. Seems to be in a really good place otherwise at the moment, which is great to see. Jooko, that’s a good hold. Sterns Peyton Sterns who maintains the lead in this first set, leading 3-2. Very good placement from Payton St. 15. A high quality start to this match actually from both players. Numbers looking good on both sides at the moment. High first serve percentage. Very few unforced errors in the opening few games. Louis felt when you play against someone who serves big or play big, your service percentage increase for this match. You play better and you serve better. Guarantee. Guarantee 405 Next for serve. That’s good serving from Payton Sterns. [Applause] Another very comfortable hold. It’s 100% so far behind her first serve. Percentage one. Really solid really high. I like that. Very high intention. Keep the high intention. Stay committed. Great serving from Aaka as well. [Music] She had it now. [Applause] This feels like Sterns is pushing Asaka to go for a bigger risk. [Applause] Frankenage 35. It’s good serving again. 4015. Now has been a high standard set by these two so far. Superbly done. [Applause] Still Sterns with the only break of the match so far. Four games to three. Four games to three. Let’s go there. So just the one break so far. Sterns the serve. New balls. Great adjustment there from Payton’s turns. Wasn’t easy. 15. Such a good placement of her first serve so far in this match. 30 just really really solid. All the right things. Catching Nami Osaka on the back foot. [Applause] Guarantee 4015. Oh, heat. Jooko Sterns St. Kuch is feeling forced to rush. Really good start for Payton Sterns. Very good surf percentage and really trying to attack first. Nine winners so far and only three enforced errors. Very good numbers for Payton’s turns. [Applause] Queen 15. [Applause] Rita zero Oh, Now for A pretty solid service game from Leo Saka this time. There’s been so little to choose between these two really in this opening set, but Sterns having taken her chance will get to serve for it now. time. Well, Sterns has barely put a foot wrong so far and is now serving for the opening set. Maybe a few extra nerves here. Just trying to close this out because she knows how close this set has been. Ifa can get the first couple of points in this game and it just opens the door a little bit. Such a mind games, right? and you’re in front all set easily holding your own serf and until it gets to 54 and you really have to back it up. It’s always a few thoughts starts to be in your head. Nicely done. [Applause] 15. Queen [Applause] 15. Come on team. Pressure’s on here. Look, come on. White. White car on the forehand, right? You’re ready for forehand. Come on. [Applause] Come on. Nice and high. Let’s go. Nice and high. It’s so obvious the tactics for Payton’s turns. You can hear from her coaching box. redirect maybe a bit too early. One shot too early. Of course. Easy to judge. You’re watching the match and you play yourself and hit. Go. It’s all good. Come on. Positive now. Come on. Take your time. Go. You got this one. First really big test here for Pton Sterns. First break point she’s faced. Oh, that is really nicely done. Was not a bad return from Naomi. [Applause] Looked like Naomi completely didn’t expect that down the line. Come on. Stopped in the middle of running. Oh, it’s beautiful from Sterns. Such a good shot. Love it. So much feel there and so much S. Come on. Come on, Pink. Come on. Let’s go. Brilliant way to bring up set point. Huge credit to the American here. Staying calm under pressure in this game. The banners were changing. So, Namiasaka to get the second set underway. Very tight opening set. No need to panic just yet for Namiasaka. Very much in this. It’s just a high quality First set between these two, but Payton Sterns is the one who leads. There’s a set away. Had rather too much depth rather from Payton Sterns. That drop shot. Good hold from Aaka. Good start to the second set. Yeah, that’s what we saw in the previous matches again. for Nomi Osaka from against Maribusova just that increasing in level just going to another gear in the second set. You could see a good very good body language. The energy is there. Very light on her feet. Masaka hitting just five winners in that first set, but she has four in the second already. Just one game in. It’s a really good opening game. Maybe just a little indication to Payton Sterns that she’s, as you say, going to have to just turn it up a notch here to get the job done. Overall quality of this match has been really high though, right from the start. train [Applause] zero 30 Another really really solid point from Naomi Osaka. Just the defense skills are impressive on play. 305. [Music] Oh, got up to it well. Just couldn’t finish. It’s against such a great defense from Osaka that got almost too excited. 405 Sterns. Then ace for Sterns to seal the game. That’s something that’s been really working well for Payton Sterns today. It’s her serve. got a lot of free points from it. Just won 86% of points behind the first serve in this match. Saka hasn’t been doing too badly either. 15 out of 19 for her. 15 79% and she’s also won 73% behind her second serve Saka. So tells you how tight that first set was. She didn’t really give much away at all. Great credit to Payton Sterns for taking her only breakpoint chance and saving breakpoint as well in that last game. The way the American played those last three points in particular in that first set was hugely impressive. Windari 15. Come on. [Applause] Rita Quind 2015. [Applause] 4015. Oh, it’s another great point from Naomi Asaka. Another comfortable hold former world number one. two against the one. The quality levels have [Music] [Applause] [Music] Sterns. [Music] 2-1 down in this second set. Net first. We did it. $15. just doing so well staying under pressure. Payton’s turns. It’s not easy to have a set in your pocket and then to be always uh the one to surf under pressure, score pressure, especially when you know the quality of your opponent as well. And yeah, you have no really you can’t let yourself miss or you know lose your focus. Like you have to take it yourself. 305. [Music] [Music] [Applause] Do a bit of a test here. [Music] net person. 43. I don’t hear you because of glass. Come on. Let’s go. All is good. You’re doing great. Come on. Come on. Go for it. Let’s go. very disappointing end of this game for Naomi Saka so well last two points the third race too much let’s focus now on the return take care of the white serve more here if she hits 200 m and let it like it’s easier for her to hit it wide come be ready here and a middle on the first one. Come on. The fret trickori just heading over the for italico. It’s uh very [Music] pretty Italian air force arerobatic demonstration. [Music] Russo the umpire did warn the players that this would ladies and gentlemen we’re going to hold the match one more minute happen at one stage we’re going to return so the players are just going to pause Yep. [Music] Few more coaching advices. Go straight at her. Go. I mean, you can do more. You can do more and follow your shots more with your body. You can hear Patrick Moroto talking. But what we could hear before coach of Payton’s turns told her to cover more the uh out wide serve. Just let let it go the down the line one a bit. Just stay in the match, stay focused and be the one who is in charge. the world’s largest arerobatic patrol apparently the fret according to Wikipedia [Laughter] Oh, few enforced errors for Osaka. Last three points. Has to watch out. Don’t think they were expecting a a third fly over. It look pretty spectacular even just looking over the course. So skillful. That was not expected. A tricky little spell here for Naomi Asak. As you mentioned, Olga just couple of errors in the last few points. This little interruption might just hinder her a little bit here. Just going to try and reset as quickly as she can. Still very much in this match. It feels like it could go either way still. Okay, we can carry on. This was unexpected. We know what’s going to happen. So, we carry on. Yeah, that was not expected. So, they don’t know if they’re going to come come back again. Oh, sorry. [Music] And again, the forehand of Payton’s turn just worked perfect for her. So much footwork around that return she had to do. Just playing with it like a chess game. They needed that nearly a sucker. [Music] [Applause] It’s a lot of Naomi supporters in the crowd. Big couple of points there from Masaka. Stanford frustrated that last one in particular. [Music] [Applause] an understandable frustration. Payton’s turns. She had her chances in this game. Osaka and Asaka does hold. Three games to remains a very tight All right. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Well, you just feel like a previous game just slip away from Payton’s turns. She felt it. It’s a good serve now. First time in the match really. She felt like she was disappointed in that, as you say, with that that last game, those last few points, having got herself into such a good position. That was the key feature in the first set. She had one chance and she took it. Asaka didn’t give much away outside of that single game. Very sharp hitting from Pagan St. so well with moving the ball around, redirecting out 49. It’s a Saka’s turn just to feel a little frustration here because she hasn’t made the most of That last game where Payton Stone started to feel some frustration has been a good response from the American here please. I mean, impressive to put that aside and to refocus in the very next game on Payton’s turns. We saw her really deal with the pressure well against Madison Keys going to a third set tie break up against such an experienced player. Ah, yes. Next, yeah. over blister hand. Mia Saka just asking for the trainer. She’s got a blister on her hand by the sound of things. Hopefully nothing that’ll impede her too much. It’s her longest winning run in a in a long time. So, she’s not played this much tennis. 15. And also on Clay, you get way more blisters somehow with the red dirt, the dust. Not maybe hitting accelerating enough. Baiton’s turns. She knows she have to attack. Move forward. Yeah, nicely done. Really good exchange once again. Great defense from Naomi Saka, but Sterns with the response again. Very good court awareness from Payton Sterns. Dropping two short drop shots in this rally. Just understanding the court position very well. then from this tremendous amount of matches that you know she’s played in college. Nothing trains you better than the actual matches, competitive matches. You can train as much as you wish, but then when you go on court, it all goes nowhere, you know, until you have that win after win after win, match after match. There’s no real way to replicate the having clarity of thought under pressure. It’s very different to do it when you’re training when you know if you get it wrong, you just do it again and practice it. But in a match, you get one chance. 43. It’s why a lot of coaches in invents this practices when you have to play points but under pressure you start like losing 3-0 on the tie break or you have just one surfac again after a couple of really good points from Payton Sterns. This remains just a very high quality battle between these two. Not much to choose between them. 43. to ask what’s happening, you know, to diagnose and to to react on that. It’s quite impressive. And applying dressing, applying dressing under pressure, under time limit. Everybody’s watching on time limit. Yeah. [Music] Asaka back up and ready. And hopefully the blister in question doesn’t cause too many issues for her. She’s still very much in this match. [Music] [Applause] And this is where Sterns just has to make sure she maintains the very high standards she has set in this match. Have seen her first ser percentage drop a little bit in the second set. It’s actually down below 50 for the second set. She’s still winning plenty of points behind both first and second serve though, so it’s not really a problem at the moment. 15. Yeah, it’s been very effective today so far for her. Quite a big weapon in today’s match. Oh, brilliant from Aaka. She read it and then she executed brilliantly. Yeah, I just felt she waited for too long there. Payton Sterns with that higher ball. It’s a little bit a bit too long. Tried it to be too creative maybe. still needed a brilliant shot from Aaka to win the point. Could she force an opening here? Good response from Sterns. can stay in focus and doesn’t react really but a rare opening. Only the third break point in the entire match combined. Saka’s second break point in the match. First in this set. Can she take the opportunity this time? We leave her serving for the second set. It’s a terrific point from Naomi Saka who does break. [Applause] What a big momentum shift that could be. [Music] [Applause] And he knew it after a couple of points in this game that it could be a shift of momentum. Come on. Just take it back. Take it back. Come on. One good game and you’re back. Come on. Right here. Let’s go. We got this one. Come on. Payton Sterns has reacted really well throughout this match. She’ll look to do it again here, but Asaka serving for the set. [Applause] hearing a bit more from Naomi Sakanel as well and also yeah it’s nice to hear it’s understanding of of the right moment to you know to add some extra pressure on Payton’s turns to show like hey I’m here now I have the momentum I’ve got this [Music] [Applause] Roger Federer was really good at that I felt like He always spot the right moment to say that loud. Come on. Mo, mostly quiet. And then yeah, mostly quiet and then you’re just like, oh, he’s on it. Well, she has it now, that’s for sure. 49. Whoever going to be proactive right now and in charge of the points and again the the surf percentage will be important for both. So Sterns to get us underway in this decider. That’s fabulous defense from Naomi Asaka. [Applause] Just some some of the defense you’re like, what am I seeing? It’s just so good from Osaka. And again the reaction after this point sets the tone for her queen 150. It’s often that acceptance that okay maybe it’s not your favorite surface feels like a bit if you think about Fitilina and grass she never liked it but already have two semi-finals there you know it’s to accept and do your best and then concentrate actually on the him. I think that’s the thing that struck me most in this performance today from Masaka is the way she’s moving on the clay. Yeah, that’s not to say that she didn’t move well on it before, but I’m I’m still finding myself surprised at what I’m seeing from her, how comfortable she looks. Yeah, she looks natural, right? coming off balance and coming off outside of the court. Side to side too short from Osaka. I still don’t didn’t accept grass as my surface. I never did. I mean, that is probably the one for most players that is almost like an alien surface to them. I mean, it’s Yeah, it’s either you love it or you don’t. It’s never really a middle. And the season is so short that it’s tough to, you know, to change your view about it. Now you could see some encouraging signs from Osaka box saying, “Come on, go for it. This is the one.” Massive opportunity here. and an early breakthrough for Namia Saka. The momentum very much with the former world number one at the moment first game final. And we have to also say that I think it’s one of the main things about very top players. It’s spotting that moment where okay, it’s now or nothing and you have to be brave. you have to be the one who attacks and that’s the moment where I can break. I think it’s uh quite obvious you see that they spot this moment as you can see this year three set matches has a good record seven with your power great job let’s go from here now come on every point Pton Sterns has got to pick herself up quickly now matches just starting to get away from her a little 10 of the last 12 points have been won by Nomi Saka 22 13 and I think that confidence also from winning quite a few tough matches in San Malo in three sets on clay also here. Uh give that extra boost for Niosaka to be relax under pressure on these courts that she still can come back in these matches. again. Incredible defense from Noaka staying resistant. Come off the shot like you said, Oscar. Very, very fast and very explosive. Very good to see. going to drop it. We have to stay strong. Come on. She does go on and win this match. By the way, it’ll be the third match in a row she’s won from a set down suggest she’s finding solutions during the match as well. Yeah, staying calm and cold mind against Golovich in the second round. She was set in 54 down. found a way remembering as well that last year at Roland Caros he did come very close to knocking Adigante in the second round. It’s that injection of power that’s so impressive. Hit that angle ball on the run with such ferocity. 405 [Applause] And there were signs last year as well. Aside from that match and you look at the players she did beat here in Rome. She had a good run. She beat Martuk. She beat Dar Casakina. Three set win over Lucia Bronzetti in the first round of Roland Garos as well. Build the point. Build the point. Don’t rush. Those are good results against good clay court players. And at the moment, she’s on this great winning run. Looking for a ninth straight win on Clay. Big service game here for Payton Sterns. Yeah, desperately need to win this game. [Applause] [Music] So sharp hitting of that forehand producing heavy spin. Gu 49. Oh, it’s devast. Stating power again. Such a good return from Aaka. 4015. Let’s go. P. Let’s go. Right here. Come on. Oh. Another slight chance for no Well, a really important hold for the American. Keeps her in touch. Can she find a way back in? Osaka then with the break 2-1 lead. Oh, zero. Block 15. [Music] Oh, speech speech. Good length from Osaka, but just have to be careful with errors. These are the opportunities that Payton Sterns really has to make the most of. Such a good response though from there. 153. Next. For the first time in this match, we’ve had a double break point. What can Nomi Asaka come up with here? And this really does feel like a chance Payton Sterns must take. Brilliant return from Payton Sterns. making the most of the second serve there from Naomi Asaka. And like her coach said, uh, two being two zero down, he said just one game to get back. It’s like a lot of, uh, it’s a big shift of momentum right now. Coming a little unexpectedly there, but great credit to Sterns. There’s no sign of any panic. Oh witching blow 14. Oh, she’s made it. Insane depth from Payton Sterns. He’s playing so committed. No hesitation there. That forehand is tough to read. Inside out [Applause] forehand. She enjoyed that one. Oh, Queenage 315. 15 from from outside. The second surf speed doesn’t seem like to be too too fast. 117 km an hour. Quite slow, but it is the depth and the high bounce. That’s definitely something that Madison Keys was struggling with, wasn’t it, a couple of days ago? Yeah. stops them like attack that surf. Oh my goodness, what a points we’re seeing right now. [Applause] This is Naomi Asaka in full flow. That’s just so good. just getting very best out each other. That was quite skillful from Payton’s terms. Last moment change. Come on. You can see that going horribly wrong, can’t you? It’s such a tricky pickup. Brave to do it as well. 30 all. Great quality in that return again from Masaka. [Applause] just feel that this game could be a deal breaker this match. Wait, I mean the way they play it could be any game. The quality is so high. Yeah, you said it before about them bringing the best out of each other. It’s been that sort of match really. You know, you get matches that are close where both players play well, but not necessarily at the same time. It’s not been the case in this match. High quality throughout. I’ll take the blame for that one. Come on. Oh, heat. Too precise from [Music] Osaka. Palita Hughes. [Music] [Applause] [Music] out of two misses of that forehand in a row from the return left to side. Sterns. Quite the reaction from Sterns and understand the standal as well because that was a big game. She was two love down in this set. A big hold that was from Peyton Sterns. She’s on a roll at the moment. Saka is still playing well. Yeah, last three games been huge from Payton Sterns. She could so easily go to the moto. Okay, like I didn’t win my chances. It’s two zero down. That’s it for me. [Applause] Queen to Chipot 150. Oh, Oh, didn’t miss by much. A bit of pressure on Asaka here. Lost three games in a row. Standard hasn’t really dropped too much, but Stern’s coming up with the goods. That is a really good serve though from Aaka. That one down the tea has worked pretty well for her in this match. It’s one of the serves she feels the most. It’s a big miss from Osaka. Understands that just taking an extra moment here. What an opportunity this is for Sterns. It’s missed. What a turnaround in this set. Last four games goes one way. On wheel. Okay. On change now. Only one change over this one. No. Four games. This one. One change over right with the record. So one time new ball once you change. So it’s good. Take this one. You don’t want to change. No. You feel good? No. Come on. Let’s go. Go P. There was a conversation about changing the rackets that for new strings or not. Could see Osaka did change for new balls. Often players do change every change of balls. [Applause] [Music] Momentum is with the American here. [Applause] Z 15. Oh, that’s a tight second surf. Feeling the pressure. long. It’s almost as though when she went down a break, the pressure was lifted a bit, played with a bit more freedom. Now all of a sudden, she’s trying to get the win. The pressure’s back on again. The angle on that from Aaka, it’s just sensational. All the mind games that tennis does to you. One at a time. Come on. Come on. [Applause] needed that rally. 1540. Take your time and again. Come on. That’s great. Let’s go. Go King. There would be some effort from Sterns to pull herself out of trouble from here. But there’s the breakback. It really is anybody’s at the moment. Four games to three. Well, the lead shortlived for Sterns, but Asaka still under a bit of pressure here, serving it 4-3 down. We’ve just passed the 2-hour mark in this match. Really high quality match as well. Setting the tone for the day. There’s a lot of great matches to come. Fascinating matchups wherever you look. Pini against Lost Penko next up on this court. That is one not to be missed. Yeah, that’s a popcorn match. Maybe a bit too passive from Payton’s turns. L I think you know Osaka gave did gave a game to Payton Sterns at 32 with a lot of errors but you just can’t continue and expect that from her. [Applause] You still have to go for it and you have to take it yourself. That’s a good return. 4015. That was the kind of depth she was getting on the returns time after time, particularly in the first set. Great serve from Asaka. Very good hold. Quatro joar or still so hard to pick a winner but again just seems to have been a little bit of a shift towards the former world number one. Don’t be surprised if that changes now. Payton Sterns has really stood up in the tough moments in this match. It’s going to be a tough loss for whoever misses out today. net for serve. A match in which both players can take a lot of positives from as well. uneven balance. You keep hearing players I actually read today from press few interviews from different players and they’re saying that it’s been an issue in Rome courts always that you know the bounce but it’s kind of expected uh playing on red clay I think these days players are used to play on like tournaments like Stoutgurt like Madrid where clay is not natural there and It’s much faster. Oh, it was a good play from Payton’s turns cuz Nasaka spotted quite early. It was a good depth in the point. Come on, Pete. You feel like always drop shot is the shot. When you do it, you know, during in the beginning of the sets, it’s okay. But when you do it on a tight moments, that’s a bit too risky. Unless you’re on the board. Yeah. Shot. Yes. 153. [Music] Pressures on here. This next point absolutely crucial. [Applause] Maybe that tension just getting to Payton Sterns a little. [Applause] A lot of balls, good movements out there. It’s much quicker to get out of the shot. Oh, a little unlucky there from Assa. She played the point brilliantly, but just didn’t quite read that. But it’s a ridiculous quality right now we are seeing from both players. Every point in this game is quite huge. Saka has to work really hard to defend. Did look like she had Payton Sterns at one stage in that point. Great credit to the American as well. As you say, the quality these two are producing so consistently in this match has been breathtaking really. It’s just long. [Applause] Now, we’re not getting the benefit of seeing exactly how close that ball was, but I think you can gather from the reaction there that it wasn’t far away. Tennis is always about the millimeters. Break point number three for Asaka. and again felt like she had it there. Was a good play from Nioaka. Really impressed with her patience. Keep saying that over and over. But the ability also to play safe. Really like that. [Music] the recognizing the right ball right now for Osaka is quite crucial. Didn’t rush on the return. She could go for a big, you know, winner trying to go for it, but just played quite safe and then waited for the right ball. Kept her depth. Oh, it’s hit the line. Absolute stubborn refusal from Payton’s turns to lose the escape. Again, can’t really fault the approach from Masaka. Maybe a little short with that last shot. Not enough depth giving Sterns the opportunity. Still had to be executed though by the American. Four break points she’s saved in this game now. Vanos turns. [Applause] news. It’s always a debate in your head at this point of the match. Do I go for it big time or I play a bit safe and wait for the mistake? She needed that Naomi Osaka after a few points in this game that Payton’s turns played. She desperately needed this kind of winner and little bit of luck right on the line. Fifth break point [Music] again. Great credit to Payton Sterns. Hughes. No panic. We are no closer here to knowing who’s going to win this match. Just can’t call it at the moment. [Applause] [Music] Super point. [Applause] A holding serve here having saved five break points would feel monumental for Payton Sterns and she’s done it. was that chance. [Music] Sterns is a game away from her first quarterfinal in Rome. Naomi Saka has got to put those missed opportunities behind her. There’s no room for error here for the former world number one serving to stay in the match. and she almost stopped there because she thought she did it long. 15. Eases the pressure a little. First point in a game like this always so important. Oh, a bit too much hesitation in the last two forehands from Payton’s turns. Really good first serve again. 187 km an hour. Fair bit of pace. done well to ease the pressure of this game. Nice combination. Good hold. [Applause] Mom is very supportive as always. Great job. Good. [Music] You almost want now Masaka to be a bit more if she could of course a bit more aggressive in this game and turn surf not to be dragged in into a longer rally. again. Such a good quality from Payton’s turns. Really looks like a player at the top of her game at the moment. Just playing with such confidence. When you can make a step forward, do it. She had that great whenever Madison Keys in the last round. That will only have boosted her self-belief on the back of that good run in Madrid, too. He’s getting very close to being a seed at Grand Slams as well now. Pton Sterns. I like that. That’s the way to punish the second serve. 15. And I like that coaching from Moratloo saying when you have a chance just step forward and it’s the good thing that impresses me the most in the Miaaka game this week. It’s you know judging when is the good time not over rush but being patient but at the same time any opportunity she have go for it. [Music] [Music] That’s a great point Again, [Applause] you felt like Naomi Osaka was on top of that point, but just again all the credit to Payton’s turns to create those opportunity for herself. Come on. Backand to back end. I mean, it’s tough to find back end of Payton Sterns. The way she move around the ball. How quick, not easy. [Applause] Big moment again. We had so many of them in the last few minutes. I feel like I’m saying it every few points. Just every point is so tense. No way. I cannot believe what we are seeing right now. [Applause] Such a good forehand from Naomi Saka. But look the way Payton Sterns treated insane angle and the shape and spin. And that rally started so tentatively as well from both players. They were playing it safe and then suddenly they just started to to free it up a bit. No, too good. That’s the combination Moratugu wanted from Osaka in this game. [Applause] at the backhand exchange and then down the line. Oh, [Applause] Slight chance for Saka to go more sharper down the line with that backhand passing shot. Go forehand and be ready for the forehand. Come on. Come on. Second ball. You stay low forward every time you can trust yourself. Thank you. Pretty much same advices from both coaching box. Huge hold again from Payton Sterns. didn’t come under quite as much pressure. [Music] I’m not 100% certain. It looked like Payton Sterns might have been feeling a little unwell there. It’s understandable. It’s more than two and a half hours now, middle of the day. or just approaching two and a half hours, I should say. It’s been uh quite the contest between these two. We have some stellar names coming up on this court today. World number ones, home favorites, Grand Slam champions. These two have set the standard for the day. If we get any better matches than this, we’ll be very, very lucky. It has been some contest. Yeah, you have four Grand Slam champions in this court. One of them’s already on it, of course. Oh my word. Where did this come from? We saw it actually so many times today where you just felt okay has this point and Payton Stern’s forehand lightning fast like a rocket. That was pretty special. And no wonder the box reaction. Moments like that can really have a big impact. Thought she was going to do it again. She was trying to [Applause] such a high quality of tennis since the beginning pretty much. 2 hours and a half players are on the court. Oh, it’s just long. But another remarkable point, the defense from Asaka. So impressive. To me, it feels like Pton Stern just closed her eyes and, you know, the ball just sits on her racket and lands on the line producing. Yeah, she’s just producing this quality especially of her forehand, backhand as well. The depth on it and seems so effortless as well. [Music] Payton Stones won a third set tiebreak against the Grand Slam Champion to reach the fourth round. Can she win a third set tiebreak against the Grand Slam champion to reach the quarterfinals? Feels like the fitting end to this match as well, doesn’t it? Zero sterns. Nothing to choose between these two over the course of the match. So, it is all going to come down to this tie break. Who can hold their nerve the best? But both of them quite impressed. No signs of fatigue, just fully focused. one on and as you’ve said it’s it’s been such a high standard and they’ve maintained it for so long. Possibly a little dip at the start of the third set, a little bit up and down from both, but I mean really being very picky there. Yeah, they brought it up the level. It’s terrific from Aaka. It’s great to see her playing in this kind of match again. Big crowd, big court. But on a tie breaks, even though it’s deciding and the moment is such a like so intense and pressure, you just feel also like kind of a relief. You know where is the ending line. So you can really go for it and push. Gutsy from Payton Sterns. I’m not sure if even her was expected that good of a drop shot. Like straight legs, but again, amazing feel into her hands. [Applause] She’s certainly been brave in this match. Payton Sterns [Applause] [Applause] One of a rare easy mistake. Let’s call it easy mistake from Payton’s turns that we’re seeing in the last I don’t know hour. Otherwise every single point was such a high quality mainly only forced misses. Can see also the wind has picked it up. [Music] Asaka’s service numbers today over the course of the match hugely impressive. 80% of points won behind her first serve and just under 60 behind her second. You do that over nearly 3 hours. You’re going to do pretty well. It tells you just how well her opponent has done too to stay with her this long and at times look like the player who might go on and win. And it still feels like there might be a twist in this match. Next person. This could be costly. A very unexpected. Yeah. Important for Osaka to stay focused and kind of put this point behind.
