We will now start the conference. Welcome. Uh we’d like to ask um first uh what your hopes are for this tournament. Well, um I’m just uh really really happy to be here. Uh excited about the tournament. I’ve been playing great uh great tennis and um you know hopefully the the tournament is going to be it’s going to be a great experience uh because I uh I wanted to to come to Tokyo. Uh I think Tokyo was uh one of the places that I really wanted to go one one day and uh having a a tournament here. I think it was a a great uh reason just to to come here to to Japan to to Tokyo um and see the the culture uh and see and see everything here. So I just uh really excited about uh playing in in different uh in different places, different stadiums and obviously feels the the the energy from from the Japanese people that I’m not used to uh feel you know during during the season. Well well uh I I love Kenishikori to be to be honest. Uh, you know, I I grew up watching watching him play. Uh, you know, his his style, his uh the way he move, the way he hit the ball, it is for me it is impressive. I I’ve seen I’ve seen him beating the the the best place in the world, winning the best trophies in the, you know, in in in the tour, uh, making finals of of Grand Slams. uh you know he’s uh for me was a was um a player that I really really enjoy watching watching him play. So it’s uh for me it’s it’s been an honor. I I having the the chance to to play against him. But uh for me has been an honor to to watch him play at his best his best level. So I think Japan was uh was lucky to to have a player like um like Nishikori.

　ATP世界ランキング１位のカルロス・アルカラス（スペイン）が大会の開幕に際して会見に出席した。
　中国の大会を選択することもできた中、日本でプレーすることには「来てみたかった場所だったので」と、日本に興味を持っていたことをうかがわせた。
　また、今大会は欠場するものの日本を代表する選手の錦織圭についての質問も出た。２２歳のアルカラスは「正直に言って、錦織圭が大好きです」と、３５歳の錦織について切り出した。身のこなしやボールの打ち方などが印象的だとし、「錦織のプレーを見るのが楽しかった」とファン目線で語った。
　日本に向けても「錦織圭のような選手を得たことは幸運だと思う」と語った。

    質問の仕方が強制的だけど錦織がやばかったことには変わりないから嫌な気はしない
