Naomi Osaka vs. Coco Gauff Full Match | 2025 US Open Round 4
15 love. We’ve been talking a lot the last few days of what would the mindset be of Goff as it pertains to the first serve. Was she going to look to be aggressive? Is it more of I’m just going to get it in so I don’t have to hit second serves against aggressive returner. Great anticipation from Osaka. But we have our answer, Mayor. First one 99, the last one 111. The other day in Goff’s first service game, the first serves were going in the high 70s. Clearly feeling a little bit better about that shot. Saka stayed home on this side. Pulled off the winner. 1513. [Applause] 154. There’s team Koko and Gavin McMillan. We’re zooming in on him. Behind him, Koko’s mom. game. Osaka first game. Sorry 15. She’ll go after the golf forehand as well, won’t she? Thomas Whitrowski came aboard just after the Washington DC tournament. Osaka not happy with her performance there. That is when she split with Patrick Moratagloo and Thomas Whitrowski got on a plane and headed straight for Montreal. He is a very good coach. Coached Naga Redwanska for many years and then of course the long stint with Eigantek. But he’s a tactician. He’s not a casual coach. So, he will have come into this match with strict advice for Osaka on how to build these points, where to go, the direction to play, and he’s given her so much structure. It’s been amazing to watch her play these matches as the work had been done and everywhere talking about Osaka that she looks so fit. Yes. But she wasn’t winning matches. And now she’s got those chessboard skills. Sometimes we show a coach Lind and we just say, “Oh yeah, here’s that guy here.” And you don’t get too excited, but I can hear how much you respect Thomas Witch Garowski. Osaka leads two games to love. So guys, two games in and I’ve really been paying attention to Naomi Osaka and how stable a base she’s getting. She’s so calm as she’s hitting these shots and they are flying off of her racket. But it doesn’t look like she is contorting herself at all. Looks like she is very much in a good rhythm this quickly. 15. Love 30. Just the body language that Osaka is playing this match with is really something to see. Has been a big shift in Osaka. That tournament in Canada did wonders. That’s the first serve mayor. That is been a weapon of golfs throughout the year. She has gone away from using that this whole year. It had been more about high first serve percentage. When Brad Gilbert was her coach, it was about going up there and swinging for it. Go for it as a weapon like that. It’s going to feel pretty good. Holding with an ace. Maka leads two games to one for just held with an ace. 2-1 first set. Well, March and I were talking before this match about the golf forehand and sometimes players look to attack it. Goff actually hits it better when she’s pulled to the side and she is forced to then have to cut the angle off. There, Osaka, you could see, was directing her attack towards the middle of the court towards the golf forehand. That’s where believe Osaka is going to look to really count. Not so wide to the forehand, but more towards the middle part of the court on that forehand wing. That’s just like that. Not give that angle where it’s easier for her to then hook it crosscourt and get it to go off the court. We talk so much about fancy moves on the court, but Osaka, I’m impressed with how she’s moving, how alert she is to the ball. Osaka returned from her maternity break in January of 2024. had high expectations of herself, but physically just wasn’t quite right quite there yet. Wasn’t as fast as she was when she left the tour. And it took her a little while to feel comfortable getting in and out of the corners, changing directions gameak 3-1 in a hurry. Maka leads three games 1% and this year physically things have been put in place but it just seemed mentally or emotionally just wasn’t playing her best tennis at those big moments. Lost so many heartbreaking matches 6’4 in the third us.org or another reminder to go on all manner of social to find out what’s going on here. And he get one easily. She’s already in the quarters. That’s where these two want to get to. So Lindsay, you were talking about Osaka’s placement of her shots out here today, and we were noticing some of the data, the Hawkeye data with her speeds from the ground. She’s maybe a little bit lower on her speeds on average, but she’s, I think, much more accurate. And we’re seeing a bit of that today, these early stages. 150 over 0. All right. That’s a crosscourt for hand that golf hits so well cuz she comes around the outside of it with all that spin. Bounces so far off the court. Saka apologizing. that 4 in he tried to get over came right at that ball that ball person let’s Go. 40 50. 40. 13. The cause of all of golf’s struggles of late just sounds like in Ash, as likable as Osaka is, they’re pulling for Coco. Another great from Osaka. Do you We’ve missed Osaka the last couple of years and this high level. I mean, when you hear a player like Naomi, it was just it about six, seven months ago, she was talking about, I I don’t know how much longer I’m going to play. Yeah. She was so hard on herself, expecting so much. To see it come out this summer and have her play free tennis again has been awesome. On their feet trying to give her more energy. Osaka had a play here. Mayor, she just chose the wrong side. game. Important holds with three against two% without serves all of that. Is Naomi Osaka the same way? I think Naomi Osaka is a fantastic competitor. A little bit different from the way golf can just will herself through matches. 15. I mean, there are times where to my eyes, it just seems like Naomi Osaka is stone cold. I mean, no expression and she will just cut opponents up when she’s in that space. Yeah, they both compete so differently. Goff was asked about it the other day and thought that that side of her was more like her father, a little bit more outgoing. And you see Goff with these big fist pumps and the loud commands and jumping around at times. Although Saka, it’s very subtle. Get you see her kind of slapping her thigh before a big point and her fist pumps just a little bit more close to her body. She’s starting to say them a little louder. That’s when you know she’s really locked in. 40 love. I mean, it looks to me like Naomi Osaka and her coach, her team, they did a lot of work on preparing her mentally for what to expect out here. The crowd has been a bit more for Coco Golf. It has not bothered Osaka. She’s doing the fist pumps just very subtly the taps to her thigh and she just looks so calm and she’s making an effort to stay in that space. Oaka hole for two. Osaka leads four games to two for six. I also think what’s impressed me even more with what Osaka is doing on court is even when she’s out of the corners. I mentioned it earlier that she’s just staying so calm with her body and staying down and through her shots beautifully. Even when she’s on the edges of the court coming out of the corner, she is still very calm with her body. And that part is is really noticeable and it’s helped her amass this lead right now. seemed like as golf went over there to get her towel, coach Gavin McMillan telling her something about was trying to make it out. Maybe tried to drive through. Was that the surf maybe? Wow. You want to aim him up for him. Certainly got more aggressive in this last point, that second serve speed at 97 and trying to now up her pace. I think that was the message from the camp there of going after her shots, going after this win. And normally I’m very happy on my couch watching a tennis match listening to you two commentate, but I am so happy to be in the stands for this one. It is edge of the seat stuff, some of the rallies like that previous one are just incredible. There is barely a seat open in this stadium and the crowd along with myself. We are enthralled right now. 40 15. You know, it’s really nice, Chanda, how quiet it is when the points are over. It’s nice that it’s so quiet, by the way, during play because sometimes here if the fans aren’t so into a match that you you hear a lot of chatter and everybody a lot more focused on the tennis that’s being played right now. [Music] New balls, please. Go to Naomi Osaka, the 23rd seed against a third seed Coco Golf, 15 left. It feels like Goth is hitting a lot of forehands. And when players play her, at times the number is is pretty even. A lot of times it’s like 55 45. Osaka, she’s going there almost 70% of the time, forcing golf to play forehands. So, there’s no question Thomas and Naomi went over the game plan of where he thinks her shots need to go 30 love. It’s a lot of forehands, right? Almost I mean more than twothirds. Yeah. Of all the shots are forehands off the racket of golf. And one winner off that wing. Let’s f another 40 golf looking at her camp in frustration. A lot of credit to Osaka though. He’s that one kicked up. The ground stroke slide through 145. Go. Another one. Just keep going there. Leads five games to three. Something changes. Pretty remarkable how just one little switch can change everything for a player and for Osaka was so disheartened after losing close ones at Roland Garos at Wimbledon. Then in Washington DC brings on Thomas Quarowski. Down match points to Samville gets ready. The crowd here trying to lift Dolph back into this first set 15. But we’re watching an Osaka who right now is enjoying the the competition. That’s exactly what she has been missing for so long. Right. 150 story for Goff in this first set so far hasn’t been the serve. That’s the good news for her. Her speeds are well up. Fastest 117, the average 106. The other night it was at 89. But for Goff, the story then turns to the forehand in this match. Another double 153. Three aces against two double folds. Everyone in this stadium knows how troubled golf has been on her serve and on her fore end. Just a couple of months ago, she won a major. She won the French. Can you win a major holding your breath? 154. We had almost two opposite sides of the tape where something switched positively for Osaka and the opposite for Goff after winning a rolling geros. Six games to three. Halfway to the quarters. Chandanda, what would be the number one thing that you would want to get through to golf if you were on her team right now? I think it is to just calm down a little bit. She’s a little bit out of control with some of her shots. Not staying down quite enough with it and a bit overwhelmed right now. She’s just getting out of Look at that. The arms up. 13aka Osaka is meeting this moment go and Chanda overwhelmed do you think with the game of Osaka or the occasion? I think more the game and the occasion is is a far second. I think Lindsay, you know, you can get so caught up in your own game that you don’t really recognize what’s on the other side of the court and what you can maybe do to throw them off rhythm or, you know, to minimize them playing as well. And I think that’s the space golf is in. She is still so much in her own head. It’s a tough place to be. Thank you. Come on. 145. Oh yes, she’s so she so wants to give her forehand a ride, doesn’t she? Well, it starts with that once you start knowing, okay, I know where the shots are going, right? Especially those second serves, that is her best chance sometimes to step in and be offensive. Remember, that’s only the third point total in this whole match she’s won receiving. 143. Feel the loading. Feel the loading and go up. [Applause] game sucker. First game, second set. You could see such a great point about Osaka and her comfort level up at net. She’s one of those players that will take a short ball and at times start backpedaling. Second serve. 15 love. Go go go. 30 love. Go. 305 [Applause] 20 errors from golf. Osaka’s got five. There it is. Chanda there. The drop shot and Osaka trying to slide into it. 405 goth has to get into using her variety. Whether that be some higher balls off the forehand there, the drop shot, a couple of chips because she’s struggling trying to out hit Osaka. game second. She’s getting a lot of reps on that side. Maybe it’ll get better. Yeah, I think that’s one thing, especially picked up on those second serves. Don’t wait for them to slide into my forehand. I’m going to go up and after them in the last return game. Now, if you’re Osaka, probably want to mix up a second serve or two here or there. [Applause] 15. Mary, you mentioned how few unforced errors Osaka has been making, and that’s what you see down here. It’s not as much about golf not playing well, and she’s not playing badly. It’s just Osaka is playing so good. Come on. That’s so good. 19 shots, both players driving through, but this is how confident right now Osaka is. And Osaka has the ability to finish points off of both wings. Goff not quite the same story. Doesn’t drive through the court as naturally off the forehand. You have to just love if you look at Osaka’s box, it’s a simple fist pump in the air from her coach. Little clap, get right back to work. So often we have seen in in recent years we’ve seen Osaka look unhappy, brooding, stressed, stressed. Haven’t seen that out here today from her. Now she’s playing just confident tennis. The box doesn’t feel like they have to jump on their feet and do all these things. They’re just con confident. Game is leads two games to one second today. So nice [Applause] 15. It’s not there. physical. Come on. 30 left. Let’s go. Let’s go. 117. That gets a big hand. 14 left. Let’s go. Let FF 40 15 right back. That’s number four. And you can hear her people saying the next one. Right back. Two up. Two games, second service. That was a great service game there for Goff. Try and give her some momentum into one of these return games. Let’s go back until the good one. Come on. [Applause] Open.org. Check in on the Muhova Kosik match. Hova won the first set. It’s four all in the second. Okay, this is the first return game has been able to win the first point. Osaka is actually won the first two points every time she served in this match. Can I also tell you that Osaka had just five unforced errors in the opening set. She’s already had five in this set. 15. 305. Here come 145. 15. The game is Four. Love 15. That’s five. [Applause] 150. That’s the game plan from Goff. It should be. How do you get Osaka? She’s got You’ve got to force Osaka to have to scramble a little bit. just having Osaka play off her front foot, being able to kind of place her ground strokes wherever she wants. It’s a tough Osaka to beat. 153. Well, to your point, Lindsay, you know, we’ve talked so much about golf and and some of the technical aspects, but what about the strategy of this match and playing it the right way? And that’s part of what we haven’t seen consistently enough from Coco Golf. [Applause] 154 [Applause] Please, ladies and gentlemen. Leads for games to second sets. for all the ups and downs and hard times that Osaka has had. She’s she’s talked about depression and how hard she’s had to fight it. She’s a mom now. She’s got a little kid. What if Thomas Wukarowski, who she’s just hired, he’s only been on the job for a couple of weeks, right? What if he can galvanize her talent? Plays are ready. Thank you. and get her to win more majors right back at the top of the game. What if that happens 15? The other side of that Tamara is what in the world was going on with Osaka the last six to 10 months with the coaching and on court. Exactly. She It’s What a mess in the wilderness. 150 and Thomas just getting everything so much clearer for Osaka. There’s no second guessing out there. She’s not looking over with these kind of panicked eyes that we saw a lot of this year. Four. Ouch. 305. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] 40 15. We’ve been talking about some of the strategic adjustments that golf has maybe not made so far in this match. Osaka has made adjustments even from her first few matches of this tournament. Her second serve, she’s going a lot more to golf’s forehand, especially body forehand. And that has continued to pay dividends. [Music] One names please change and how wanting to be here believing in our game of having fun the difference it’s made. Thank you players now is going to search to try and get back 15 left. And as Osaka evidenced in Montreal, I mean, she was on a not a great streak. Down match points in that one match to Samson Sonova, it can turn around pretty quickly. 30 left. Let’s go. 30 15 right back. Here we go. [Applause] 40 15. Come on. 4013. It’s Coco Golf’s 30th. Right back 12. juice. Come on, Co. Good energy. Not easy. You got to lose. You got to lose. Come on, Co. You got this. Come on. Keep going, Co. advantage your second right back. Come on. on another forehand error, kids. She’s back. Maybe many more that fans here on Ash were pulling for Koko, but Naomi Osaka able to keep them quiet as Koko leaves the court. I mean, she’s in troubled waters and

💢👉 NAOMI IS NOT A THREAT TO ( COCO ) BECAUSE COCO BEAT HER IN. 2022 AND IN 2024 >>>
Notre relation est sérieuse sans Ambiguïté ❤
I'm happy for Osaka. I'm sad for Coco but hope she will come back stronger. I think in this tournament particularly I can see she was tensed and stressed out like she said she put so much pressure on herself. She's just turned out 21 recently. Amazing what she is already doing. I hope she's going to become again more self-composed like she used to do. I still don't like the commentator that doesn't sound and want to give flowers for both players.
I don't like osaka
Osaka looks like Grimace from McDonald's in that purple thingy!
❤
Supporting osaka .
I feel like Gauff really threw this one. She had so many double faults and outs. What happened?!
She’s back 😊
Coco runs off draw luck. She has lots of weaknesses on hard courts. Not sure she will be semifinals at grand slam soon. Osaka is back herself step by step and she is a real deal.
Королева возвращается….
Despite the clear bias of the crowd, Naomi has clearly found the answer to her previous misfortune. No one can deny that the girl is back
MY BABY GIRL NAOMI WILL TAKE IT ALL !!!
Coco, it is my dog’s name. Lol
I know you use the An-punch serving, because I am Asagoro from JPN. I beleave your No.1 again!
La balle disparait au niveau des carrés de service, c'est dérangeant pour suivre les échanges.. Merci quand même pour le replay.
Bye bye gauff lol
A star is born again…OSAKA
MAN some of these commentators have DIFFICULTY cheering on black women. "What if THAT happens?" S.I.L.E.N.C.E. from the booth.
Best tennis match I've seen 🔥
Yeah…when Coco masters her serve, she’s going to be so tough to beat
