Making a track with Genki and Suno | In The Cut

What happens when an artist known for J-Pop steps into the studio to craft a completely new alternative rock sound?

In this episode of In The Cut, we sit down with Japanese artist Genki Iwahashi, who has been working in entertainment since he was 14 years old. Looking to evolve past his idol roots and show a side of his artistry that people haven’t seen yet, Genki hits the studio to jam with a live band featuring producer Ryosuke Kihara, keyboardist Yasuhiro Obata, and bassist Ippei Maeda.

Watch as the band records a killer 16-bar live session, then feeds that progression directly into Suno’s Cover feature. Using prompts like “rock, 2000, alternative rock, california” and later exploring “neo-soul” and “mellow synth,” the team rapidly builds out an entirely new sonic landscape.

For Genki and his team, the speed of this workflow opens up massive creative possibilities. “It’s amazing what we can do within just an hour!” he says. “I didn’t say I got goosebumps, but it felt like ‘Wow.'”

    Now you just need to let us buy the songs we made on the free plan. Either: 1) per song @ $1-2, or 2) pay for the month it was made in and get all of that month's songs. Perhaps only open this option up to paid subscribers.

    You are doing good.but Your customer service has disappointed me too much. I upgraded my plan monthly pro to Annually pro.Payment deducted, got receipt but my pro account converted to free.

    In all the world's most popular songs up to today (2026), the engineers put the bass/Synth Pads/Reese Bass, all that stuff, on a super wide stereo system, sometimes even overpowering the singer's voice… Then they master and sidechain it, which makes a wonderful, balanced sound, and you can listen to the song for a long time with headphones without your ears hurting.

    Most AI music tools, including Sonu, have messed up with this tech and are stuck with a simple master.

    OpenAI or Antropic must partner with Suno, we need an LLM within Suno for conversational prompting to achieve accuracy in music generation. For examplex, it must be able to remove vocals from the original song and regenerate the exact instrumental of that song with 100% accuracy.
