ミュージカル『梨泰院クラス』振付：カイル・ハナガミ インタビュー
I admire the work ethic of the dancers and the performers and I was just really excited to uh have the opportunity to work on this. Well, I think the challenging thing about this project is that it’s not just that it’s a Japanese musical, but it’s a Japanese musical about Koreans. Uh, so I feel like I’m constantly having to do a double translation of everything. Uh, but I love a challenge. I mean, I feel like always first and foremost it’s the characters that are at the forefront. Uh, I the characters are all so different and so rich in their description and how they act that it really is about every single musical number having an arc for the character. And then also throughout the entire show, uh the cast is extremely talented. They are all uh professionals. I mean, the first time that I heard everybody sing together, I had to goosebumps. Um so I it’s it’s really great to work with people who are each so individually talented uh at what they do and then bringing them all together makes it even more special. Uh, Noo is a superstar. He really is. He takes this character and like he finds a way to make it his own and yet stay true to the original source work. Um, and it’s just it’s cool to see how somebody who is so big here in Japan uh be so humble and great with everybody that he works with. I mean, with a pop song, I think it’s an entirely different process because you’re focused on usually just one artist or like a group of artists. Um, and there’s only one story that you’re telling, but here in a musical, there’s so many different characters and they’re all weaving together. Um, and it’s it’s about finding each person’s individual talents. Um, and making sure that they each uh bring their own story arc to a close by the end.
