Hi everyone, where are we going by bus this episode? Xindian offers access to Taipei City via the MRT and a dense bus network. We’ll depart from Qingtan in Xindian and take the Songjiang Xinsheng Express Line to Fuxing North Village . Not only are the services frequent, but they also have a rich history. This episode is a little different. We’ll spend half a day taking multiple bus rides from Xindian to Taipei , exploring the scenery and attractions along the way. For this exciting video, please be sure to watch it in its entirety. Before we begin, don’t forget to like and subscribe! I’m Albert, and I’m Ah-Feng. “From Xindian to Taipei, First-Line Bus Experiences Surprise.” Let’s go! OK! Everyone, we’re at the Qingtan parking lot at the Xindian Bus Station. I’d like to invite Ah-Feng out again to say hello! Hi, I’m Ah-Feng . Hello, Ah-Feng. There’s a very frequent route in Xindian , and that’s the Songjiang Xinsheng Express Line we’re taking today. I have a question for Ah-Feng: Do you know what the bus number for the Songjiang Xinsheng Express Line used to be? 642 , yes! That’s right, in this episode, we’ll be riding the Songjiang New Express from the Qingtan Parking Lot in Xindian all the way to the destination. What attractions will we see along the way? So, let’s get on the train now! The starting point for the Songjiang New Express is the Qingtan Parking Lot , located just below Xinwu Road in Xindian . The Songjiang New Express passes through Bitan Scenic Area, Qizhang Dapinglin, Jingmei, Wanlong, Gongguan, National Taiwan University, Guanghua Shopping Center, Xingtian Temple, Taipei Fish Market, and finally passes through Fuxing North Village. Then, along Minquan East Road, we’ll return to Songjiang Road and rejoin the original route. This two-segment ticket is operated by Xindian Bus Company. In this episode, we’ll take the Songjiang New Express multiple times, traveling from Xindian all the way to Taipei. The Songjiang New Express passes through all of these attractions . The weather wasn’t great on the day of filming, with a steady drizzle all day long. But don’t worry, the rain won’t dampen our enthusiasm for riding and exploring . Our first stop is the Xindian MRT Station, ready to begin our first round of sightseeing! Next to Xindian MRT Station is the Bitan Scenic Area . Let’s start by introducing the attractions along the Bitan route. According to the Xindian City Chronicles, Bitan, also known as Chibitan and Shibitan, is where the Xindian River widens as it flows from the mountains into the city. The river ‘s emerald green color gives it the name Bitan. About a five-minute walk along Xindian Road, you’ll find the Bitan Suspension Bridge. Officially completed in 1937, the bridge, originally named “Biqiao,” can accommodate approximately 1,000 people . Now a pedestrian-only suspension bridge, once used by vehicles and horses, it has undergone three renovations. On August 5, 2013, the New Taipei City Government designated the Bitan Suspension Bridge a municipal historic site . It is also the only suspension bridge in Taiwan equipped with a safety monitoring system. In September 1990, the 800-meter-long Bitan Bridge was built downstream of the suspension bridge. Completed in December 1995, it became a key bridge on National Highway 3, adding a new dimension to Bitan’s landscape. But do you think the Bitan Scenic Area is only about the Bitan Suspension Bridge and the riverside scenery? You’re wrong! Walking along the riverside trail, you ‘ll come to a place with a lot of history. I’m sure you’ve read about it in history textbooks before. This is the original site of the Lugong Canal, built by Mr. Guo Xilu in 1740 to irrigate farmland in Taipei’s Songshan District . Next to it is the monument marking the Lugong Canal’s history. The Lugong Canal has now been filled in or abandoned, with only a few waterways remaining on the east side of Taipei City and in Xindian District, New Taipei City. This is also an inevitable change after the transition from an agricultural society to an industrial and commercial society. Continuing forward, you’ll come to the Bitan Bridge, which connects Ankeng and Xindian City . In 1956, a new bridge, commonly known as the Bitan Cement Bridge , was built downstream of Bitan . It was destroyed several times by the fierce flooding of Xindian Creek during the rainy season and has been rebuilt and widened. Today, the Bitan Suspension Bridge, National Highway 3 Bitan Bridge and The Bitan Bridge represents the bridges of the old, middle-aged, and young generations on the Xindian River. Next to the Bitan Bridge is the Bitan Weir. The first generation of the Bitan Weir was built in the 18th century but was severely damaged by Typhoon Soudelor in 2015. To repair the damaged Bitan Weir, the New Taipei City Government’s Water Resources Bureau launched the Bitan Weir Improvement Project. A fishway was built on the right bank of the weir, allowing migratory organisms in the Xindian River to swim upstream. A transparent viewing window in the middle of the fishway provides an aquarium-like viewing experience, allowing you to admire the migrating fish in the fishway. The entire project was completed in July 2023. Unfortunately, no fish were visible through the viewing window, but an underwater camera has been installed and is live-streaming on YouTube. You can also use the internet to watch the wonderful ecological scenes of the Xindian River! After passing the Bitan Weir Fishway, we arrived at the Qinqing Riverside Park. This is the Qinqing Artificial Stream, completed on August 26, 2023. It is a simulated natural landscape stream. Stones from the Xindian Creek riverbed were used nearby and stacked in the stream channel to create a safe playing area. After visiting the attractions around Bitan, we are ready to take the Songjiang Xinsheng Express to the next attraction! The predecessor of the Songjiang Xinsheng Express can be traced back to June 30, 1996. The 505 operated by the Taipei City Bus Department officially extended from Jingmei to Xindian and operated together with Xindian Bus. This was also the first joint bus route of Xindian Bus. The two operators have different routes in Xindian. The Taipei City Bus Department runs on Zhongxing Road, and the Xindian Bus Company runs on Beixin Road . On October 1, 1998, in order to distinguish it from the Taipei City Bus Department’s 505 , it was independently numbered 642. It originally ran from the north next to Xindian Station on the MRT. The route from Xinlu to Fuxing North Village was officially extended to Qingtan on December 18, 1998 , and has become the most familiar route. The 505 bus from the city bus office was shortened to Gongguan, and then, after the Roosevelt Road bus lane was opened, it turned back from Jingmei to connect to Roosevelt Road Section 6 in Taipei. The bridges to Xindian Beixin Road are composed of Beixin Bridge and Mingyuan Bridge. The predecessor of Beixin Bridge was the Wanhua-Xindian Railway (Wanhua-Xindian) which operated from 1921 to 1965 . After the Wanxin Railway was dismantled in 1965, the railway bridge was rebuilt into the Beixin Bridge, a bridge accessible to motor vehicles . It was completed in October 1965. Mingyuan Bridge, named in memory of Catholic priest Lei Mingyuan, was completed in January 1996. To the right is Jingmei Bridge. The original Jingmei Bridge was built in 1761 as a water diversion channel for irrigation in the Taipei Basin. The current Jingmei Bridge is the fourth generation bridge, completed and opened to traffic in September 2010. It features an inclined cable-stayed arch bridge design, providing access for motor vehicles . Beijing Jingwen Street and Xindian Shunan Street. Beixin Bridge, Mingyuan Bridge, and Jingmei Bridge have become important bridges connecting Jingmei and Xindian. “Gongguan” was originally a nickname for the Qing Dynasty government offices in the private sector. The Qing government established an office here to collect taxes and pay grain. Later, during the Tongzhi period, “Gongguan Street” was established, hence the name Gongguan . The Gongguan business district is close to the National Taiwan University, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, and the National Taiwan Normal University Gongguan campus, providing citizens and students with a comprehensive shopping mall covering food, clothing, housing, transportation, and entertainment . Gongguan is the most well-known area. The most famous is National Taiwan University, established in 1928. During the Japanese era, it was known as Taipei Imperial University. It was officially renamed National Taiwan University in 1945. It is Taiwan’s first institution of higher education and the largest university in Taiwan by student enrollment. Xinsheng North and South Roads were formerly known as the “Special No. 1 Drainage Channel,” also known as the “Hori River,” which was built in 1933 for both flood control and drainage. Roads were constructed along the waterway . After World War II, these were named Xinsheng South Road and North Road. Continue driving along Xinsheng South Road until you reach Daan Forest Park. There’s a place called Taipei’s “Lungs of the City.” During the Japanese era, it was a vast expanse of farmland. In 1949, the Republic of China Air Force Communications Group established a base here. The area was also used to house the military dependents’ villages, including Jianhua New Village, Yuelu New Village, the military radio station, and the International School. On March 21, 1989, the Taipei City Council decided to build a forest park on the land and demolish the military dependents’ village, which aroused dissatisfaction among the residents at the time. After much negotiation, the plan was successfully implemented. On March 29, 1994, Daan Forest Park officially opened. Today, it is one of the most important parks and green spaces in Taipei City. In the days when the Taipei Railway was not yet underground, in order to reduce the load on the railway level crossing at the intersection of Xinsheng South Road and Songjiang Road , a new “Guanghua Bridge” was built in 1971 to connect Songjiang Road and Xinsheng South Road. Two years after the completion of Guanghua Bridge, Over 200 vendors originally located at the intersection of Antong Street and Bade Road were relocated to the two-story underground space beneath Guanghua Bridge. This space gradually evolved into the famous Guanghua Shopping Center, which sells 3C products. After the railway was undergrounded, coupled with the 921 earthquake, concerns arose about the structure of Guanghua Bridge. Therefore, on January 29, 2006, Guanghua Bridge was officially demolished. In July 2008 , vendors originally located at Guanghua Shopping Center moved to Guanghua Digital New World , where a wide variety of electronic products remained. However, the original Guanghua Shopping Center remains in the memories of many. Two stone tablets of Guanghua Bridge are now preserved, one on display at Guanghua Digital New World and the other at Zhongxiao Xinsheng MRT Station. The 642 bus on Tangtong Road has always enjoyed steady passenger service, boasting the most frequent service in the Xindian area. On July 5, 2017 , in compliance with Taipei City’s new generation trunk bus policy , the 642 was officially renamed the “Songjiang Xinsheng Trunk Line,” increasing service frequency and offering transfer discounts. The Xindian Bus route , running the 505 and 642 buses to the Songjiang Xinsheng Trunk Line, has been around for nearly 30 years. What remains unchanged is that this route remains a vital companion to Xindian and Taipei . We’re nearing our next stop, the Taipei Fish Market, but it seems to consist solely of a row of auto repair shops. What attractions are nearby worth visiting? Let’s get off here and explore! Okay! We’ve made it to the Taipei Fish Market. So, what attractions are worth visiting in the Taipei Fish Market area? Let’s get off now! Next to the bus stop at Taipei Fish Market is the Second Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Market. Established in September 1985, it provides top-quality, professional services to producers, suppliers, distributors , and consumers . Fresh fruits and vegetables are sold in the mornings and closed in the afternoons , but you can still enter and take Elevator 3 to the fourth floor and up one level. Alternatively, you can take Elevator 2 directly to the fifth floor , eliminating the need for stairs. This is the outdoor area of the fifth-floor parking lot. Because it’s close to the end of Runway 10 at Songshan Airport , you can catch a glimpse of planes landing at Songshan Airport and even take photos with the Grand Hotel . For those who love airplanes, this is a must-see! But are there other nearby flight viewing spots? Of course there are! Going forward along Minzu East Road, you ‘ll reach the alleyway at Lane 180, Binjiang Street. Also known as Airplane Alley, it’s located at the junction of Songshan District and Zhongshan District in Taipei City. It’s closer to the head of Runway 10 at Songshan Airport. Compared to other airports in Taiwan , Airplane Alley boasts a more visually and acoustically stunning experience , making it a prime spot for locals, tourists, airplane enthusiasts , and even couples to watch and film planes taking off and landing at Songshan Airport . Although it was raining on the day of filming , filming Airplane Alley on a rainy day creates a completely different atmosphere than on a sunny day. The splashing water during takeoff is particularly stunning. However, we must remind everyone that Songshan Airport is a joint military-civilian use site. Since August 1, 2015, regulations have been enacted regarding joint military-civilian use sites. When filming airplanes , please avoid filming the Songshan Airport barracks to avoid violating the law! After visiting these two airport viewing spots, we’ll take the Songjiang Xinsheng Expressway for the final time, passing through the Fubei Underpass. This is an underpass connecting Taipei City’s Fuxing North Road, Binjiang Street, and Dazhi Bridge , crossing Taipei Songshan Airport. Construction began on January 20, 1997, and it officially opened to traffic on November 29, 2006. This is one of the few examples of construction taking place beneath a functioning airport runway. This section is a one-way stop , passing through Fuxing North Road to Fuxing North Village, then turning onto Minquan East Road to the Minquan-Songjiang intersection. On the return trip, we’ll take Songjiang Road, Xinsheng South Road, and finally exit at the Minquan-Songjiang intersection in Xindian. The main Xingtian Temple Taipei shrine is not far away. Established in 1943, it’s also known as the Enzhugong Temple . It primarily dedicates Guandi , the Saint of Mercy , and is a well-known Guandi Temple in Taiwan. It was founded by Master Xuankong and is affiliated with Xingtian Temple. Xingtian Temple also has two branch temples, located at Zhongyi Mountain in Beitou and Xingxiu Temple at Baiji Mountain in Sanxia. Together, they are known as the “Three Xingtian Temples.” On August 26, 2014, to implement Master Xuan Kong’s philosophy of self-respect and devotion, the temple eliminated incense burners and altars, replacing stick incense with heart-incense, becoming a model for eco-friendly temples. Walking back along Minquan East Road, we finally arrived at Rongxing Garden Park, encompassing 6.5 hectares bounded by Minquan East Road Section 3, Jianguo North Road, Wuchang Street, and Longjiang Road. Opened and operated by the Koo family in Lugang in 1968, it was originally named “Rongxing Garden.” Admission was once charged, but in 1989, the Taipei City Government Parks Department took over. After renovations in 2003, it was renamed Rongxing Park, and in 2011, it was renamed “Rongxing Garden Park.” This area was a filming location for the movie “My Girlhood,” making it a great place to stroll around. We took the same bus route and covered so much ground. Although it was raining , it was a very fulfilling experience. I hope everyone enjoys this episode! OK! Hey everyone, we successfully took the Songjiang Xinsheng Line from the Qingtan parking lot all the way to the end point and visited 5 (slip: it seems more than 5) different places . It was quite fulfilling ! I hope you all enjoyed this episode’s itinerary~ Thank you to our fans of this episode, Afen .
