So we’ll get into the report. Commissioner declares police officers association chair vacated. Police commissioner Dr. Kevin Blake has directed that the chair of the police officers association POA be vacated and said the current holder will no longer be granted audience with the police I command nor will he permitted to represent the Jamaica Constabulary Force JCF outside of official duties. And that’s a bold statement people. The I command is concerned that reports of alleged in discipline and misconduct by the chairman may compromise the conduct of the POA, particularly at a time when the organization is required to engage in highly technical salary and benefits negotiation with the government of Jamaica. The JCF said in a release issued to its officers Monday afternoon. The I command did not give specifics of the allegation against the POA chairman, senior superintendent of police Cameron. However, it said its position was reinforced by reports of the executives failure to meet to conduct the business of the POA as well as to convene a general meeting over several years. It also said the commissioner’s action which was exercised under his powers of superintendence over the police force is necessary to safeguard the interest of all gazetted officers. The I command said it will provide support where necessary to facilitate a smooth and timely transition. In the interim, the remaining members of the POA executive will appoint a chairman prom who will lead the POA into a special general meeting for the purpose of electing a new executive in accordance with established convention. Now people we get into the respond by the chairman SSP Wayne Cameron and this is what he said people chairman SSP Wayne Cameron says Dr. Blake does not have the authority to remove him. Chairman of the Police Officers Association, PA, Senior Superintendent Wayne Cameron, said the police commissioner does not have the authority to remove him from the post. Speaking with IFM news this afternoon, SSP Cameron added that Dr. Kevin Blake did not speak to him on the matter. He explained that the POA does not represent the commissioner. SSP Camearon pointed out that the commissioner’s directive came after he filed a complaint with the Police Service Commission against Kevin Blake. Now people listen to SSP Cameron in his own words that that the commissioner has had no dialogue with me. I don’t know of what this correspondence is really about. And um uh whilst I was speaking to a member of my executive committee just a short while ago, I learned that this email was sent by the high command. So um they’re all officers our all officers. Now I want to make it categorically clear that the commissioner of police has absolutely no authority to remove a POA chairman from its position. He has no such authority that the chairman of the police officers association is selected from the floor. And when I said from the floor, I’m talking about at a conference where more than 2/3 majority of the officers are present. A quorum is present rather where a quorum is present. And um that was duly done at our last conference in 2022, November 2022 and um our plan conference for for November 2025. Then we go back to conference and make those decisions. So the commissioner is acting outside of his authority. I don’t know where he has gotten that from. So the commissioner of police has cited me for unprofessional conduct a particular matter that is before he has sent it to the police service commission. I cannot comment on that. All right. But this is against the background that I have written some concerns against the commissioner of police to the police service commission and if I have written a grievance against the commission of police I would expect that to be heard. So this is where we are at. So it apparently the commissioner has drawn battle lines that I am well prepared for. The police officers association does not represent the commissioner of police. We represent from the rank of assistant superintendent to the rank of deputy commissioner and so the the commissioner is not a part of our outfit at all and he should not be putting out anything of this nature.
