Naomi Osaka vs. Amanda Anisimova Full Match | 2025 US Open Semifinal

Okay, you love Both players are very good from in the serve department. The Mandana Samova though over the Fortnite has served a little bit better. Higher first serve percentage. He’s gotten a lot of free points off of that shot as well. I think in terms of the eye test, Mary might give Osaka the advantage in the serve department, but Anna Samova so far has actually served better. She’s had a higher percentage of first serves, about 10% better than Osaka. Equal number of aces, but more unreturned serves. So, that’s going to be a big weapon for the American over the course of this evening. Oh. 13ki [Applause] seen him in the box for many years with Baka Radwanska and then Walker now with Osaka. 304 says she likes the karate cuz he just tells it like it is straightforward, unadored language. Keeps it simple but makes himself very clear. [Applause] first game breaks down the ball no matter who is on the other side. Except when Amanda strikes her backand then it seems to just become faster and it slides through it. Amanda 77 mph average on her backhand side. That’s the quickest men and women at the US Open and you can see that with your eye when you’re sitting on the side and it’s beautiful to look at, isn’t it? So beautifully, simply designed. Question over the course of this evening is how often will Anna Samova be able to change direction and go down the line? That’s been a big weapon for her, especially on the backhand side. One of the things Osaka has done well is keep good pace and depth on her shots. And she’s also been able to hit the angle, just get a that ball to tail off a little bit. It’s very hard to hit down the line straight and true off of a really good crosscourt shot. Hello. [Music] [Applause] Thank you. [Applause] who watches this game will remember that she got skunked in that woman in final against and I she couldn’t win a game and when she won a game against in that last round I think all of us were breathing a collective sigh of relief that she was on the board and then she took her down in straights. Well, she got broken start her first service game. That was concerning. Yeah. But she recovered quickly. She did. And believe it or not, did not watch back that Wimbledon final until the night before she was to play EGA again yesterday. She just she finally said, “Let me see what and when she was asked what she saw, she said, “I move so slowly.” So quickness is going to be a big part of this match because the woods are full of big hitters. I was looking at this rally length for both of these players over the the course of of this event. And for Osaka, it’s about three and a half shots on average. For Anna Amanda Ana Samova, it’s under three for the most part. Just over three in a couple of her matches. Average rally length. If you look at the opponents that they both face, the bigger hitters. So when you put two big hitters together, you expect a lot of first strike tennis. That is going to be the name of the game. And Osaka gets it there. 154. [Music] Yeah. That is an excellent reply off the forehand from Hannah Simova under pressure and she goes for it. These last three games there was a bit more margin on Amanda Nissimova’s jokes and I’m very aware that a bit more margin for Amanda is still very risky for most other players but there was a bit more spin. on these last three shots here to get her back to deuce. This is an important game obviously to get but very difficult to still have a chance when you get down a double break and Anna Samova fighting to not have that happen. game leads by two one for set. [Music] He loves for just a little bit more now. Maybe something clicked in that last game after getting down love 40. She’s got consecutive points in a row now. Six in counting. 15. Hello. 153. You can see even now how long Addison Nova’s ball stays in the air until it drops in the court. It means really good depth. And then if that ball is speeding through the court, it’s not easy to handle. 15 and 14. [Applause] Two games are all present. I must be gone now. Shots fired. The shots have been fired. Exactly. Right. [Applause] Just how it was that Sappale was able to take down Jessica and make her way into the championship match on Saturday night. Was a good match. Interesting match up. [Applause] [Music] that backand approach. It sounds pretty sweet. I will say that. And it’s going to be interesting. I’ve been just thinking about the matches Nomi Osaka has played. She hasn’t really faced a big hitter in the last three matches. If you think about it, Koko Goff, Bo Mova, Cassadkina, they all play a bit more security tennis. And now that Amanda has found her groove, this is a completely different ball game. It’s a good ball. We talked about Amanda Anisova’s serve and how well she’s been on that shot, but the returning for Anna Anna Samova has been next level. She has forced a lot of misses off the return. 21 return winners over the course of the Fortnite. Just four for Osaka. Very big difference in how aggressively they return. Let’s first off 13 [Applause] Wow. [Applause] has got to keep figuring out how to get Anna Samova moving, not hitting to the same side twice. And she does it there to generate more break points. second control. I keep thinking about how all four of the women’s semi finalists tonight have had to show so much resilience in their lives, which is my favorite part of what an athlete does. We we talked in the first semiinal about 59 Jessica Pagula’s mom Terry and how sick she was. Reena Sabalena lost her father Sergey hero when she was just 21. Hockey player died suddenly of menitis at 43. talk about Osaka’s depression and Samova. She had the sudden loss of her dad as well. They’ve all had to be resilient. 135. Looking through all kinds of emotional pain, [Applause] suffering, trauma, tragedy, ability to adapt and come back to the top of the tennis [Applause] 15. It’s complex, season, and very personal. You never know what players are dealing with outside the lines. And we mainly speak about inside the lines and we break it down and analyze, but there’s a whole lot more sometimes. The beauty of the sport when you can see players Bobby Fle Food Network star beat Bobby Fle is the probably most popular right now. [Applause] We were talking about Senova that she took time off just mental break and that’s not easy to do. I mean, that takes, you know, I think it’s a bit risky and it it it takes a bit of bravery to feel like you’re going to do what you need to do for yourself and put everything else to the back burner. And I say that because you grew up playing this sport at a young age feeling like it has to be everything. And if it’s not, you will not be able to be the player that you can be. And for Amanda Anova to just put all that aside and do what she needed for herself mentally, emotionally, that was huge. In the midst of it, she um doing artwork. Yeah. and started painting and started selling it for charity. And so there was a lot of fulfillment for her in many ways, finding something else that she could release what she was feeling. 13 403. This is going to be what are the chances Andre Povich that this is going to be a pretty streaky match. Well, I have Mark Lucero next to me who used to coach Amanda Nissimova and we both I just double checked with him, but we both agree she looks a little tight. It’s not terrible. She said after beating Eva that she played furious things. Yeah. And that’s when I say tight I don’t mean she can play. She has lead in her muscles and can’t move. But there is just not the same freess that she felt against Egiante. There’s not the same urgency how she’s striking the ball. There’s a little bit of doubt and that’s why I double check checked with Mark just because he knows her so well whether I’m projecting it. But he sees it too. He thinks that she’s not at 100% freedom quite yet in her ground strokes. Okay, let’s get Mark on the blower. You just single. Does Mark just think she’s got to start moving her feet a little bit better, moving better? Just release a little bit when she hits the ball. He feels like there’s a bit of hesitancy at in some moments of of her while striking. She just kind of squeaking around trying to guess right. I mean, she’s sliding on the hardcore, Mary. Why can’t she do that on the clay? She had it all lined up, too. [Applause] She loves that light back hand. [Music] [Applause] This was good ball striking from Osaka and Ana Samova fending off that first shot and then stepping in on the second. [Applause] Graham New ball please for three now. Leads by four games to three per set. [Applause] Love Hey [Applause] [Music] smack on that 79 mph [Applause] 153 started using that serve nicely against Muhooka. Getting her stretched out to open up court. Nice when it doesn’t come back. 50 to the back hand for man. You may know it’s coming, but it is still difficult to get behind it fully. And she’s got more break points. 304. [Applause] Venus Williams was honored in a ceremony tonight. The work she is doing. title program to youth youth in tennis and giving opportunities along inside the USA. She spoke very nicely about what has motivated her in her career. [Applause] That shot from Osaka, the previous shot was just off the back of the line and Anna Samova can’t believe it stayed in. [Applause] Come on. That’s it. Simone counting on that second serve. And this is why Osaka is focused on trying to get a lot of first serves in. She’s up about 10% in this match above her tournament average. an advantage. [Applause] Left seconds up. [Applause] Just clean ball striking. Two of the best in the business. Middle right now [Applause] for Saka and now a 5-3 lead. Osaka leads by five games to three. First set [Applause] Garowski look like he was so stand back further on this return game. might be a reason to give herself a little more time trying to defend against some of these big shots from Ana Simova. The first dec on the on the deuce side she stood back but then she moved forward into the serve. That time she stayed back and gave herself the spacing. It’s allowed her to just get a little bit more solidly behind the ball. 135. She did it again there. Kind of ran into it. So much of the return when you’re trying to be aggressive is about timing. Smoke. 4015. This is how Anisa looked against just seeming to control every impulse of the match. Having a quarter time of that tonight. Heat. Heat. Saka still in the lead for about this opening set [Music] after every single point. Love it. Osaka’s first stop. She’s feeling the pressure here for [Applause] Samova with an opening. [Applause] played with freedom in this game. Love the team. You see Osaka giving a couple of hard looks to her team after a couple of those misses. Thank you. [Applause] 1540. Small step. Here we go. Come on. Doing great. [Applause] [Music] five controlling your such a big difference the body language between these two players and similar hitting confidently. Osaka just looking like she was questioning ever so slightly and it showed in how she played that game. Love it. Spectacular balls. [Applause] 59. Good job. [Applause] 15 30 [Applause] [Applause] Oh, that’s big time. She going down to the last serve on that side. Excellent change up out wide. [Applause] [Applause] 4013. [Applause] Now he’s in the lead on served now. And now Saka needs to be a little bit careful here. She is just dropping the balls a little too short, playing a little too slow, and Amanda Nissimova is all over it. She needs to get some of the aggression back that she had in the very beginning. It’s been an interesting shift in the Osaka mindset and she is trying desperately to get it back here. Three games in a row to Anna Samova. Tina. All of a sudden, it’s Addison Nova who uped the MPHES and is hitting bigger. Fault. Thomas Victorski just before this point yelled motioned the forehand towards Naomi and yelled let it go. So he too feels like she needs to be put a bit more on her ground strokes right now. 143. [Applause] Yeah, surprises the back hand so much on the big points. [Music] That’s not the place to go. The backhand is rock solid. And as we mentioned, the biggest backhand still left in the tournament. Men and women. Okay, men and women. Heat. [Applause] [Applause] Heat. One morning’s backhand speeds on average 77 milesPH. Center is next at 76. Alcarez at 73 along with Sabalinka. And then it goes down the list there. Man, I believe you. [Applause] Osaka is at 70 miles per hour on average. And it’s been Anna Samova before this last game. Anna Samova out hitting Osaka. 21 Samova’s coach on the right there, Rick Fleshower. It’s been with her since her return to the game. You can see that second serve slow up dramatically and that should serve didn’t have a chance. [Applause] Thank you. [Applause] 41. [Applause] Just a few more misses coming into the Anosa Samova game and Osaka stretching the lead now. [Applause] 51 coming into this match. Both players were even in terms of aces over the course of the tournament. Osaka though a handful now and that last one was a big one. Crucial moment. [Applause] 6 1. Ladies and gentlemen, please remain silent during the rally as a courtesy to the players. Thank you. Thanks to Moaka. [Applause] about tension and release. Tension and release with an Simova, which is hard if you’ve got such a power game from behind, more relaxed with the ball power. power game. You don’t want to back off your shots. You want to keep swinging, right? But it’s the adjustment you make in terms of spin, in terms of margin. Hope so. [Applause] What was that? Oh, still fly. It’s going to take a couple of seconds, please. Andre, do you know what happened down there? There was an out call, but it was Ladies and gentlemen, trying to find out what the problem was. So, please bear with us for a second. Okay. So they are back in the electronic line system trying to figure out what it was because there was a random out call a loud one a very loud one that seemingly was not attached to any of the balls bouncing. So, Miriam BL from Germany is now on the phone. So, [Music] ladies and gentlemen, despite the system saying fault, Naru Mosaka’s last shot on the left baseline was out indeed. We just saw the picture on the board. Therefore, the new score is 64 Osaka. by seven against the six. Halfway to another US Open final is Naomi Osaka. Look at him. He loves her team. Beautiful [Applause] trying to go to the Anosova forehand there, but just didn’t quite get enough spin on it and immediate break points. 15. Thank you. So for Manisova, first game, second set. Hopefully that was just after the shot. That is just what you want to try to negate losing first set the way she did. Let’s go. Come on. She got so low on this then held it. didn’t feel anything physically off of that, but a good start here. Love it. Hey. Take it on. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] 135. Just seems like a little loss of focus for Osaka. What are you sensing down there, Andrea? Well, I’ve been just trying to figure out. So, every time Amanda hits a winner, Naomi laughs out loud almost. Then I’ve been trying to figure out what that is about. As if she’s trying to calm herself down with that fault. Is it almost like she’s uncomfortable? Trying trying to release a bit of that or Exactly. More like an uncom It’s not like laughing as if she’s having a good time. More like an uncomfortable laughter or as if to say, “Oh, I didn’t hit a good shot. That’s why she’s hitting winners, you know, like nervous laughter a little bit.” Look, we’ve seen her so happy. Osaka out there looking grim and glum. I think she’s going out of her way to look in a better state. That’s the sign for Osaka to pick on right now until he shows her that she’s comfortable making those forehands. Here we go. Thanks. one second to your zone one by one. Come on, let’s go. Boats broken three times now. Thank you. The lady behind me, players about to serve. Thank you. [Applause] Love the team. Osaka is not winning a lot of points behind her second serve and he’s lost both of them so far in this second set. [Applause] a real premium on getting that first serve in. She got a little a little more spin and kick on that first serve. Come on. 305. [Applause] Not a good sign, huh? She’s just telling her team just maybe. That was an irritated looking forehand miss as well. Y [Applause] Go there. Come on. She took a little bit off for a service at 97 miles per hour. Wanted to make sure she didn’t give Anna Samova a second serve. [Applause] news player. Come on. Thank you. [Applause] [Music] T number seven. Okay. [Applause] New ball serve in the second. How do you think Anna Samova is moving now? Andrea Pedovich courtside. She seems half a step slower than she was against Igashiante. And I don’t know whether that’s due to nerves or physically that she’s feeling tired. But she just sometimes doesn’t seem to be behind the ball when she’s trying to strike at it. And that’s why she’s missing often times. What a shot. What an angle. What a It’s the first drop shot I can recall seeing in this match. Everything has been big hitting and this came out of nowhere. Yeah. Just chiseled under it. She misses that. I believe these women played yesterday and that is why they were the second match on tonight. There’s always that shift when you get to semi-final day and those players that, you know, played second in terms of the the start of the tournament, they don’t get that extra day off. And another missing for the American [Applause] [Applause] Thanks. Wow. Sergio [Applause] up didn’t have to do a lot of moving in this exchange. That’s why that shot so accurate. [Applause] 403 30 for Innoc [Applause] [Applause] on her shots. Not great body language from Adam over here. She She even stuck out her tongue. [Applause] It’s one of the longer rallies and it ended with a flourish for Anna Samoa. Four. news that Ana Samova hasn’t spent over long amount of time on court these two weeks, but that match against Shiantech was an emotional battle and they had to wait a long time before they got on court because of the match before it. Yeah, it was a long one. Yeah. Demon Felix Ali [Applause] This is the first time that Anna Samova has made it this far at the US Open. Her home slam. There’s a lot going on. She is fighting to stay even here. two games, second up, right? And Amanda is trying everything that she can to crawl her way into back into this match. So, it’s very tension filled down here. in a good way or an uncomfortable way. I’ll leave that up to you. Love it. [Applause] 59. Well, even though Anna Samova lost that point, she is still doing the right things out there, trying to keep Osaka just a bit off balance. The drop shot has worked. [Applause] 15. [Applause] sat and watched some tennis alongside Mary Pierce last night. And this the way Anna Samova hits the ball reminds me of being on the other side against Mary Pierce. Could hit winners from any area of the court and when she got time so difficult to catch up to it. That’s the kind of tennis Anna Samova is playing. She’s been playing her best here. Osaka is trying to keep up. So, [Applause] this has become like a baseline cage bench. 134. That was the perfect pattern. I just couldn’t execute it. Let HF [Applause] Lent. Second serve. That’s bad luck news. [Applause] A little good fortune for Osaka. Can she run with it? I love red just clapping a very very funny Hey, Advantage. [Applause] just in these last 10 minutes has been swinging so freely, letting the racket go. And him overh. Love it. [Applause] [Applause] Thank you, ladies and gentlemen. Please Love 13. [Applause] Let her serve. 15 and 30. Good job. Come on. [Applause] Oh, hey. Thank you. Thank you. 17 14 frustration. from the side of the court before gets another of good fortune with that net forward. Another great point. Three games. Second set. Osaka. three games away from coming back on this court on Saturday, the final against San. [Applause] Thank you. Thank you, ladies and gentlemen. Thank you. And Amanda just looks very very down on herself right now. It seems like she’s just been pushed into a hole mentally and needs to try and find a way out of it if she wants to turn this match around. 17. players with their fair share of crowd support and this crowd appreciating the shot making resilience of Naomi Osaka right now. [Applause] 175 and a Samova attacking the return and Osaka she wants to get there but she also wants to get her reply with some depth so that she doesn’t stay on this string and it is a fine balance right now. Power coming off of Anna Simov racket. The back perhaps has been the little difference maker for Osaka. Eighth. Ace. [Applause] 10. Wow, it’s stunning stuff. Those back hands are already setting. She just sweeps into him. It’s such a stable shot and she gets behind it so beautifully, generating a lot of pace, as much pace or more than most forehands. And then ankle too. Ahead leads by four against three. Second set [Music] Hallelujah. [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. Just a couple of moments in this close match. Osaka seems to be happier to be out there, not getting as frustrated with themselves in ragging bangs. Body language is pretty positive. [Applause] Yeah. Not many players that could hit out hit Osaka so thoroughly, but Anna Samova is one of those players when she lines up. Yeah. Just want to be directing a little more to her forehand side, she’s made millions of dollars off her backhand. 17 left. [Applause] That big backhand gave her time for this winning forehand. Thank you. 1315. 201 14. It’s one of the toughest games that has played. [Applause] Go left. [Applause] Thank you. [Applause] [Music] Ladies, ladies and gentlemen, That’s partly what Osaka has so far. This is ladies and gentlemen, please remain silent between the first and second set of each player. Thank you. Some critical moments for Anna Samova. And when you have that kind of power that she has, you got to take some misses with it. But just a few too many from the American more than twice as many as 14 Osaka’s talked about part of her renewed mindset is she doesn’t feel like she has to hit winners all the time. She can stay in points a little bit longer and we have seen that tonight. 40 to 30. And that’s a great point you’re making, Chanda, because we’ve seen it with Shiantek yesterday. Amanda’s power is so overwhelming that you start to hit flat and as hard as her. Nomi has been doing quite a good job in rolling the ball in when she needs to. She’s frustrated with that. There is a certain discipline that is required against a player like Anna Samova and it can feel at times so stressful because you can’t control shots like that one. Pretty [Applause] good look at that camp. The first game at 40 love, but since then has been under pressure. It’s another good. Thank you. Thank you. [Applause] First serve. It’s down to 38%. Love 15. [Applause] Thank you. Love 13 back to back. Barely catching the tip for the line. Back to that second serves. [Applause] Love team. [Applause] 154. Similar to what happened to Aaka in her last game in the service game. 40 love missed a backhand and the game completely changed from there. Will it happen here? [Applause] [Applause] side. Okay. Here we go. Come on. On your serve to the back. Hey, you’re not fighting with me. Come on. Here we go. She just She just had a good return. Calm down. Calm down. Focus on the next point. Be positive. Stop complaining. Come on. Sometimes you just got to vent out to his coach. Thank you. He’s ours. He’s not having any of it. Rick. Good for Rick. I’m on his side. Stop complaining. know your player and know what to trigger and help them get their minds back on track. And maybe that was it for Mandana Samova. 59. [Applause] [Applause] Incredible [Applause] striking there. 15. She’s missed a few forehands. That is not quite as stable as the backhand side, but this one is pitcher perfect. And she went after it. [Applause] Another big return. [Music] Let’s go. [Applause] It’s 134. [Applause] Yeah. [Applause] That was almost the exact same serve as the previous side serve. And still trying to get the feet going. [Applause] [Music] Yeah. News [Applause] out. What a comeback she’s trying to pull off in this game. She now 1540. 1540. And this she made it look easy, but nothing is easy in these moments. Every shot requires so much attention. somehow from the two-time US Open champion. And now she’s a game away from the final. One thing she can’t afford to have is a halfhazard devotion to power tennis. Love it. [Applause] That’s nice controlled contain power tennis. [Music] 175. A little extra placement, little less pace. Just what she needed. [Applause] 2015 moves from just when she needed it. 6 tie break. Relax. [Applause] One zero and tomorrow. [Applause] Left for [Applause] [Applause] Two zero one. [Applause] Hey, hello. 30. [Applause] Much better start for in this time. 4 Z and she hasn’t gotten the proper spacing on a couple of these shots and it’s difficult to do with how well Anna Samova is hitting the ball but that’s the work. Thank you for Osaka right now. [Applause] Go. [Applause] It’s the exact opposite of the first set tie break for Anna Samova where she got down 5-1. This time she’s completely turned the tables. shots like that. Not doing a lot of missing. Oh. 52 and [Applause] down some points. What a corporate patch. She’s enjoying 63. Amazing one. [Applause] Second one more set with the who’s in the Saturday final of the 2025 US Open. Such containment in those last couple of G [Applause] [Music] That second set tie break. Anna Samova upped her speeds. An average was at 78 miles per hour. Osaka, her average top spin speed was 66. Dropped off at the wrong time for her. [Applause] Love associate. [Applause] 50/50. No matter what happens at the end of this match, Anis Mova will be the second highest ranked American behind Koko Golf. Five if she doesn’t pull out this match. Four if she gets the win. 30 closer and some intended but it’s still caught. [Applause] Especially because of the rally had against Sheltech in that Wimbledon final 0 and0 when she beat her yesterday. She came into press and said today is the most meaningful victory I’ve had in my life. This one might be right up there too if she can pull this off. new goal piece at 130. She gets a hold continuing. It’s it’s really coming down to big points is who can manage those moments and we we saw it in the first semiinal. Saval Linka came through and this match is going to be more of the same. Safety and love. [Applause] 59. Right now, Rosaka is putting it in Anna Samurova’s hands and she’s got to find a way to get back to more offense. Remember that these 15 twice before [Applause] both of them 30 shots just so fast to the soccer team. Thanks Game one. Final set. [Applause] Go. Let’s serve. Come on. Things are happening here. Lovely. They’re warmed up now. Everything Osaka could do to control that one. 150. Come on. [Music] [Applause] out. 305. Here we go. [Applause] 14. She’s a great guy. as high as speed as Osaka has, but she has come up with some big serves, some important moments. Very nice. And I love it that time. [Applause] Left herself. So, she was just given what seemed to be pain medication on that last like a Tylenol that she was given. Okay. Call the training. Looked like they were looking at her lower left leg but didn’t do any treatment on it and instead had the looked like the Tylenol. It sounded to be Tylenol. Thank god. [Applause] Okay. Thank you. So even faster than that. 15 to 13 for us. [Applause] [Music] 15 and 14. Ladies and gentlemen, please do not use flash photography. Thank you. [Applause] Just get to one last. It’s 12:30 in the morning. It’s fat free Friday. Barely take any time between points, kids. [Applause] Go to usopen.org on all those social media outlets for scores, match highlights, player news, all of it. And the man has such a great depth of shot right now. It’s really difficult for Naomi to get out of the that deadly hug almost whenever Amanda gets a first strike in and finds her depth. 14 of the last 20 15 [Music] [Applause] [Music] There’s beating up the shot clock. 30 15 Yeah. Heat. 14 15 that first serve percentage of Anaova’s rising consistently now as long with along with the ace count. [Applause] She’s going to have to cook up some results now. It’s one break, but it feels like a bigger lead obviously with the score line, but also with how well Anna Simova has been striking the ball. First serve has dropped dramatically for Usaka in this final set and Anna Samova is taking full advantage of these second serves. 30 15 40 15 couple in that game. [Applause] All [Music] right. 11. 1. Don't know what's going on with Osaka, but too me ot looks like she she was paid too lose didn't finish watching the first set, breaking my heart. 😢

  2. most stressful match of Osaka's career imo, really gave it all she could and it wasn't enough, 2026 Aussie open contender!

  3. It seemed the match was all on Amanda's racket with the hit and miss. Even after when she lost the 1st set….The crucial point for the match was Osaka being broken early in second set — she would have a greater chance of winning if she didn't get broken and might have closed out in 2 sets —- because as time went by, Amanda got more and more into the groove. She played lights out. She stayed mentally so strong. Osaka didn't do much wrong and showed great rally tolerance — a great improvement for her but was ultimately outhit. May be tactically she could try something else as she isn't going to outhit Amanda — Amanda could strike first before she could in most of the rallies……On another day, the outcome might have been very different, because Amanda plays such a risky game, just a little off here and there and she might have lost. But she is a total talent in the things she could pull off.
