Hikaru Uchimi) It’s not really a specialty, but we got a lot of eggs as gifts. So today we’re making egg salad, and broccoli for the side. Tokomitsu) I’m Tokomitsu, a sumo hairdresser. I’m cutting the Chinese cabbage for the pot. Staff) What’s this that’s already in the pot? Hikaru Uchimi) These are chicken bones for the broth. 【Hirose】【Tanji】 Staff) Preparing all these ingredients is one thing, but with this much quantity, going shopping must be tough, right? Hikaru Uchimi) When I go to Costco, the stable’s car is a Vellfire, and the luggage— I couldn’t even see behind me in the rearview mirror.
【So much stuff the rearview mirror was useless】 For one month of ingredients, I go shopping with the okamisan, and we fill about six huge Costco carts. It’s about 300,000 to 400,000 yen. These are yuzu. Staff) Yuzu? Hikaru Uchimi) At this time of year, it’s actually hard to get yuzu. Out around here, some families even make their own yuzu kosho, and they often have yuzu trees. So I asked a mom I know, “I want to use yuzu for tomorrow’s chanko, but I can’t find any—can you help me out?” And she brought these for me like this. Hikaru Uchimi) These are the chicken meatballs for today’s yuzu-salt chanko. Staff) The yuzu from earlier— Hirose) We peel the skins and mix the yuzu peel into the meatballs. Kanryu) I’m Kanryu. I came to help.

Wakamotoharu) Salt-based chanko has been around for a long time, but the current chanko leader kept improving it in different ways, and yuzu got added recently. Oyakata Onogawa) Ah, that’s nice and gentle. Oyakata Onogawa) This is good! Oyakata Arashio) Is it good? Oyakata Onogawa) The yuzu flavor hits really well. The meatballs are great! Oyakata Arashio) Young guys seem to like it a lot too recently. Oyakata Onogawa) Yuzu feels kind of grown-up though. Do you guys eat yuzu? Daiseizan) I can eat it. I love it. Wakamotoharu) The chicken hot pot they make right before a tournament is my favorite. Oyakata Onogawa) What flavor? The chicken hot pot. Wakamotoharu) It’s kinda like mizutaki. Oyakata Onogawa) Like you eat it with ponzu? Wakamotoharu) I always eat it with salt. [Oyachan Channel] Oyakata Onogawa) I want to ask more about Arashio Stable too. Like, did I do something? Then he said, “Special room!” Oyakata Onogawa) Oh yeah, I saw a wrestler sitting there once. That big yellow fancy chair, right? Wakamotoharu) People focus on the yellow chair, but the ceiling was amazing. It was like mosaic art with tiles.
