The London's West End version of Charlie and the chocolate factory will always be the best because they used child actors to play Augustus Gloop, Veruca Salt, Violet Beauregarde, Mike Teavee and Charlie Bucket.
I heard from a lot of people that they like the London version over the Broadway and UK tour versions because they prefer the child actors to play these characters and I have to agree with them and it makes perfect sense. Their casting of child actors to play the five Golden Ticket winners is much better than the Broadway and UK tour versions a few years later. Plus when the show started in London the producers along with the creative team that worked on the show in the West End they know what they were doing for the casting of child actors in the show and they got it right.
Compare to the Broadway and UK tour versions they cast adult actors to play the four bad kids and that was not only a bad idea and a bad decision that the producers along with the creative team that worked on the show on Broadway have made since the show came to the United States and it's not the right casting. Other than that, it's not fair to have Charlie be the only child actor in both the Broadway and UK tour versions. It doesn't make any since why would they want to cut this corner and it just doesn't feel right. The problem with this casting is they don't look like kids. When they are standing next to their parents they look about the same age and when they are standing next to Charlie which was the only child actor in the show they are too tall. Plus, when the adult actors are playing Augustas Gloop, Veruca Salt, Violet Bauregarde and Mike Teavee in both the Broadway and UK tour versions they are really awful in their acting, comedy and how they preform. They also ruined a bunch of 10 and 12 year old boys and girls dreams of being a naughty kid on stage.
What could have saved both the Broadway and UK tour versions for cutting this corner for casting adults to play the four bad kids along with cost cutting, plot changes and finding different creative teams, producers and directors is that they could have just kept the West End production the same like they did with Matilda and just do two or three sets of child actors playing Augustus, Veruca, Violet, Mike and Charlie so they won't have to hire as many children.
