盆栽を引き立てる鉢映り ～樹格を高める鉢合わせ～

In this episode of WABI CHANNEL, we introduce the idea of “pot harmony” — how the right pot can bring out the beauty, dignity, and character of a bonsai.
A bonsai pot is more than just a container. It is like attire for the tree.
The shape of the tree, the color of the trunk and leaves, its seasonal appearance, and the dignity of each species and style all influence which pot should be chosen.
In this video, we look at various examples, including a large Chinese quince, a maple, Japanese black pine, Japanese white pine, a Japanese maple group planting, a literati-style Japanese red pine, and a Shimpaku juniper.
Through these examples, we explore how to match bonsai with unglazed clay pots, glazed pots, rectangular pots, oval pots, fukuro-style pots, and more.
The pot should not stand out too much.

For the first time someone else is saying what I am saying for so many years, most of modern pots lenght width ratio are wrong, the best is to get under 2/3 close to 16/9 ratio, so the front side can reach a 2/3 ratio compared to largest tree size , either height or width.
This ratio was very common in old chinese kowatari and nakawatari pots, it's also much easier to fit the bonsai to a old display stand, as the 30-60cm long table often have a 2/3 ratio, (ex, 46×31, or 60×38) and the larger writing tables even have a more elongated shape, sometimes much closer to 2/1 ratio, it makes them very difficult to use without a properly shaped pot.
This shape ratio is one of the main reason why many european trees display are bad, with a too small pot and table, because they often use a 2/3 ratio pot, then , order a custom (bad) made table to fit, and you end with a 1m tree with a 60cm pot and 75cm table.
