इसके बाद कुछ लोग पानी की तलाश में निकलते हैं और एक नदी खोज निकालते हैं। वहां से वे आशा लेकर लौटते हैं। लेकिन अब तक सब जान चुके होते हैं कि उन्हें शायद कभी अपने पुराने जीवन में वापस लौटने का मौका ना मिले। काया शिमा अपनी बीती जिंदगी की कहानी बताता है कि कैसे उसने अपने छोटे भाई तत्सुया को पाला जिसने बाद में अपराध में फंसकर जेल की हवा खाई। वह भाई का खत साथ लाया था। जो उसी दिन जेल से रिहा होने वाला था जब यह हादसा हुआ। बाहर की दुनिया में तत्सुया अपने भाई को ढूंढता है और मानने को तैयार नहीं कि उसका भाई मरा है। स्टेशन पर अन्य गुमशुदा लोगों के परिवार भी जवाब मांग रहे होते हैं। उधर जंगल में तानाका एक अजनबी व्यक्ति को देखता है और उसका पीछा करता है। वह कशिमा के हेयर ड्रेसिंग टूल्स चुरा लेता है। बाद में वापस आकर बताता है कि उसने टोपी पहने किसी अनजान आदमी को देखा
